  25. Atari itself.  CPUrept has something about an Atari Employee doing
  26. some stuff, but it wasn't all that clear, what happened, and who they
  27. were trying to 'power play' etc.

  46. Sorry for a wider distribution than I wanted, but there is no way
  47. to distribute it on a State by State basis.  I wanted Atari owners
  48. in states neighboring on Illinois to know that we are having an
  49. all Atari Swap Fest on Sunday, April 22.  This is not a full blown
  50. Atarifest, just a local swap fest, but there will be some developers
  51. there and several dealers.  Bob Brodie is even tentatively scheduled
  52. to be there.  The full announcement follows.

  62.      Lake County Atari Computer Enthusiasts and MilAtari LTD. have
  63. finalized plans for Midwest Atari SwapFest '90 to be held Sunday,
  64. April 22, 1990 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The event will be held at The
  65. Diplomat, 5572 Grand Avenue (IL 132), 1/4 mile east of I-94. The
  66. Diplomat is part of the new Gurnee Days Inn complex near the main
  67. entrance to the Great America theme park. The location is approximately
  68. 40 mins from both Milwaukee and Chicago via Interstate 94.

  70.      Expected in attendance will be at least 10 area vendors offering
  71. Atari-related Import and Domestic software, Hardware, and accessories.
  72. Representatives of the local Atari User Groups; GRACE (Chicago), RACC,
  73. (Rockford), SCAT (West Suburban Chicago), and the hosts, MilAtari LTD
  74. (Milwaukee) and LCACE (Chicago Northern Suburbs) will be on hand. The
  75. groups will have Public Domain software, and used hardware and software
  76. for sale.

  78.      An invitation has been extended to Mr. Bob Brodie, Atari Corp.
  79. Coordinator of User Group Activities. Bob plans to give a presentation,
  80. and will show "whatever he can get his hands on" in the way of new
  81. products from Atari.

  83.      General admission to Midwest Atari SwapFest '90 will be $2.00 if
  84. purchased in advance through one of the above mentioned user groups.
  85. Admission the day of the event will be $3.00. The admission includes

  98.    Is there any reliable, documented way to tell whether or not GEM is
  99. fully loaded?  I want to run a program from an AUTO folder that replaces
  100. the GEM process termination vector at $408.  If I set the vector in the
  101. AUTO folder, GEM just clobbers it when it comes up.
  102.  
  103.    Currently, I install a VBI which waits for a fixed amount of time,
  104. and then sets the vector.   This works, but is (obviously) not guaranteed
  105. to work in the future.
  106.  
  107.    Is there an Atari-sanctioned way to pull this off?  I notice from the
  108. Headstart documentation that Johnson & Eidsvoog do something involving the
  109. line F trap.  I don't see why one has to resort to such tactics.

  165. The PC-Ditto II m68000 connector is so flackey by design that any and all
  166. screwey results are possible.

  168. A row of ribbon connector pins is not stable enough to make a reliable pressure
  169. joint.  And the shoulders of a M68000 are absolutely not designed to be a
  170. conatact point.

  172. SOLDER the SOB on and your problems will go away.

  174. I did this, and two things happened:
  175. 1. PC-Ditto II now works great.
  176. 2. Half of my memory is now bad.

  202. This is a "foot in mouth" waiting to happen if I ever saw one.  CBM has Unix
  203. up and going in Europe, and isn't released yet here for a few good reasons
  204. including the need to have dealers that are able to support it.  From
  205. the people that have gotten their hands on it, they have said it is one of
  206. the nicest implimentations out there. Certainly better than Apple's. Since
  207. the few places I know you can get ST stuff are mail order, do you think any
  208. company or College is going to buy a Un*x workstation, which needs constant
  209. support, from a Crazy Fredy's mail order house.

  220. This is totally incorrect.   My 68030 hums along at 25MHz without any
  221. knowledge that there are coprossesors, while they are performing advanced
  222. system/graphics/IO processes.  This paragraph is nothing but lies.  The
  223. CPU in an Amiga has NOTHING to do with what the co-processors do. I have
  224. heard from CBM and Atari developers that the Amiga Blitter is much more
  225. powerful then the Atari, however since I am not 100% learned on them BOTH I
  226. will leave that discussion to people who know what they are talking about.

  234. Sure you can use a hack that dumps raw data onto a floppy and get's 900K on
  235. your ST.  You can also use the FastFileSystem and others on an Amiga floppy
  236. that get almost 1Meg with about a 200% increase in speed. This is not
  237. important.  What IS important is that all the Original 520ST's had Single
  238. Sided drives, so unless developers what to exclude those, they have to release
  239. all their software in the SSDD ?360K format.  The original Amiga where equipted
  240. with the same drives that they are using now.

  247. want.. and I would strongly suggest you do.

  249. I would hope that when The Amiga UN*X Workstations start selling, and you
  250. sell all you ST stuff for the most you get get for it in order to pay for
  251. part of a $100 internal Floppy drive for YOUR new Amiga, that you would post
  252. a note saying how foolish you had been all this time.

  332. Well, so far there are three votes for and two votes against the idea
  333. of splitting this newsgroup.  The votes in favor seemed to be along
  334. the lines of "I'm really sick of reading these flame wars and
  335. financial statements" and the votes against were "there's not enough
  336. traffic".

  338. Obviously, if only five people care either way, it's unlikely we'll
  339. get 100 votes in favor of each new group.

  341. Would anyone be in favor of at least separating the technical stuff
  342. from the general stuff?  Before, I was undecided about the whole thing,
  343. but now (having taken a peek into comp.sys.amiga.tech) I think a
  344. comp.sys.atari.tech group might be a good thing.  I think there's
  345. enough traffic for it, and it would (I belieive) generate more
  346. technical discussion from those people who will read just that
  347. group and not comp.sys.atari.st (general).  Just my opinion.

  383. Tom Jones, Dept. of Meteorology, Univ. of Edinburgh. The letter states that
  384. Edinburgh is maintaining an on-line library of public domain ST software.
